Why You Shouldn’t Say “I Can’t Afford It”
I have been coaching people since 2009 and I have come across this so many times I thought it would be worth blogging on it.
You see, coaching or having mentoring is not like buying anything else you have ever bought. It’s not a like a holiday or new pair of shoes or even a new car!
It’s going to change you. Of course, you are used to buying the holiday, new shoes or even a new car, you know how to make a decision on that.
You have to think:
- The holiday is that what I want to experience?
- The shoes do I like them? Will they be a good fit?
- The car will it make me feel good and be just what I need?
You will also think can I afford it? That is the right thing to think when making that decision because it is not going to change your life that much. Your mindset will not change, nor will your ability to manifest from having a holiday, new shoes or a new car. So that decision has to be on can I afford it?
Investing in yourself with coaching or mentoring is similar. You need to think is this what I need to experience? Do I like them? Will we be a good fit? Will it make me feel good?
However, please do not fall into the trap of thinking I can’t afford it. That decision is based on your current position and with coaching (certainly the work I do) all of that will change and change fast.
Of course, you can’t afford it this very moment because if you could you would not be looking for help with manifesting more abundance, flow, ease and basically looking for support to increase your finances. You have not done the clearing of your limiting beliefs yet, so you are still operating on your old beliefs.
Trust Your Feelings
Deciding to work in a coaching programme should be based on feelings. If you feel the pull to do this work and have that level of support to move through your fears, you should follow what feels right and see where it leads you. This is about alignment. When you align with what feels right to you the Universe conspires with you to make it happen.
When you say “YES I want to do this, I don’t know how yet, but I will do it”, it open things ups. Ideas start to flow of how it could be possible. You might decide to use your savings, use a credit card, get a loan, sell something, or ask for an early birthday present. Honestly, I don’t know but you will know how you can make it happen if you feel it strongly enough, we always can make things happen when we really want something. There is always a way when we stay open to the magic of possibilities.
When we automatically say “No I can’t afford it”, everything shuts down. NO just blocks any chance it might happen.
Fear is going to come up, your EGO will be doing a merry dance with you, probably telling you that it won’t work, or you can do it on your own or even spend your money on something else like that holiday or a new car.
If nothing changes, nothing changes. If your mindset is not altered to more expansive thoughts and if new beliefs are not created to match what you want. If we don’t clear your blocks around worthiness you will stay stuck with what you have.
That’s OK if where you are now makes you feel happy, content and satisfied but it is OK too to want more.
You can buy the holiday and car and they will more than likely make you feel good short term but they won’t fix the underlying issue.
The bit that is totally crazy (and I have heard this so many times) is when we think “Well, I will do this work when I can afford it! I will manifest the money and then book my programme”. “I will be back,” people say. Let me tell you that will not happen because if you can manifest the money when you can’t afford it you don’t need my support. You are doing wonderfully on your own.
An Investment In You
Coaching/mentoring is an investment and if you are doing work with me it will be changing your mindset from the start. It will be helping you connect into all the support you need from “The Upstairs”. It will be working on you attracting more passion and pleasure into your life and of course fully crafted around what you personally need, as no two clients are the same.
I have personally changed my life around on many levels. Financially is one, I was a single mum on benefits. If I hadn’t changed my beliefs around money, if I hadn’t invested in support where I needed it I would still be in my ex-council house struggling with debt. I decided to get out of that position and followed my guidance.
I invested in myself, in time to do this work and money, money I didn’t have. I used cards to get the help in my business I needed. It was a gamble but it felt right. I am not saying that is what you should do, but you should follow your guidance. When I have followed mine I have never had any regrets. The only regrets I have in life have all been when I didn’t listen to what my intuition was telling me when I didn’t follow what felt good because it felt too scary.

What is it that you truly want to manifest? Get really clear on it as we are going to look at what sits behind this desire. For example, if it's money you want to manifest, it's not really about the money - it's about what you will do with the money. I'd also like...
This topic has come up for me personally, in my recent retreat and in my Passion, Purpose and Pleasure Programme. I was wondering if it has also come up for you? I consider myself to be an honest person, I don't lie, I wear my heart on my sleeve. But then I looked...
