My car was booked in for its MOT last Thursday. That was the day when we had the start of the flash floods and a river manifested down the main street in Kendal, sending it all into chaos. So it got cancelled as the MOT bay was flooded too. It was a slight inconvenience as I was now without MOT and the next time they could fit me in was the following Monday. I had searched hard for the cheapest place and found there was quite a difference in the pricing for it.
My car has recently being costing me a fortune as needed new tyres and a service too! So any savings were of high priority right now. I had also had a problem with my front windscreen wiper that had been getting that carried away with its self it had started to wipe the side window too! Obviously all the recent rain hadn’t helped, it was probably as sick of it as we all have been! My service man had said he would get me the part and be back in touch to fit it, but reassured me that my MOT would pass.
So after a weekend of not being able to drive my car and getting ferried around by others, I really appreciated as I set off down the road on the Monday morning for the MOT garage. I was going along quite happily, having some time to myself again in the liquid sunshine of this glorious summer! Yes, I am was trying to enjoy it and was doing so well listening to my favourite tracks, singing my heart out when my windscreen wipers stopped working all together.
I couldn’t believe it; I knew it was not going to pass the MOT now! I pulled over the and got out he car to move the wiper blades out of my vision, whilst immediately asking “The Upstairs” for some help and fast.
I wasn’t sure what to do but thought I better continue with my journey to the MOT garage, hoping they would be able to help. Amazingly it stopped raining, so I didn’t need to keep stopping to clear my windscreen, I knew I was being looked after, I could just feel it, but I was unsure how! I kept thinking what was this all about. I believe there is a lesson in everything and if you don’t jump into the drama of a situation you can learn from it quickly and see your way out clearly.
So once at the MOT garage, I explained to the guys there what had happened and they got under the bonnet to try and sort the problem. Whilst they were incredibly helpful I was not confident with their “mechanical abilities” hence why I had not had it serviced there! As they were all under the bonnet, trying to help, they managed to loose of couple of plastic bungs somewhere in my engine! After a period of grunting, groaning and scratching heads they decided there was nothing they could do! I have to say I was somewhat relieved, even though now it had started to rain again and I had a vision of being stuck there forever. I had to smile when one of them commented how calm I was and how I was laughing about it all! I felt like telling them – I have friends in high places, so to speak, but thought maybe this was not the time and as much as I didn’t know how “The Upstairs” would deal with the situation, I did know they would do all they could to help.
I got back in the car and phoned to local dealership garage up and explained my situation, asking for a price for, I have to say I felt slightly fearful that it might be hundreds of pounds as I was told it was the motor, and that sounded expensive to me. I was quoted around £200! My stomach flipped new tyres, service, now £200 and still not MOT. But what choice did I have, I needed my car back on the road and fast. So I sat there asking for the rain to stop, and that now police would pull me whilst I made the journey to the dealership!
I got there fine thankfully, no rain, no police and in one piece! But I couldn’t help think this has really messed my day up and now I am going to need to get someone to come and pick me up and that will mess their day up too!
I went into the garage and explained my situation to the lady on the desk, who seriously could have been my Fairy Godmother, as she seemed to wave a magic wand over the whole situation! She confirmed that they could fix the car today, but so I could get on with my day she would lend me a car. She went on to say that also because I had bought my car from them I could have my MOT for FREE! I couldn’t believe it, that’s why the first time I had try to go to get my MOT done it was cancelled due to the weather. The second time “The Upstairs” had stopped me again because I was at the wrong garage, they knew I didn’t need any extra expense and they knew how to help, as they always have you best interest at heart.
I practically skipped out there thinking “thanks”. If I had gone into the negative with the whole situation and done the drama, I probably wouldn’t have realised the bigger picture, but instead I staying relaxed and just took it all in my stride! So I set of back home to get on with my day. Later in the day I got a phone call to say I could collect, when I got there they had not only valeted it car, but the invoice was considerably less that they quoted and I got my MOT for FREE!
I am pleased to say I back on the road, with everything working and legal and appreciate my car and “The Upstairs” more than ever!!!
Cheers Guys!
